Bearings Supplied for Navy Ship

Orkot Marine Bearings was contracted by Rolls-Royce Marine to supply shaft propulsion, rudder and stabiliser bearings plus protective covers and rope guards for the Royal Navy T45 Daring Class Destroyer, the first of six destroyers to be built by BAe Systems. The first of the ships has recently returned from successful sea trials.

The shaft propulsion bearings are intermediate and A bracket units made from Orkot TXMM and TLMM material designed to operate at a low shaft velocity with low friction and wear.Their design incorporates a locking key system to allow for bearing removal underwater.

Coupling covers were supplied to protect the hydraulic shaft coupling from damage and corrosion and are designed to be removed and replaced during refits if the shaft is removed. These are sealed using O-rings and filled with biodegradable grease as added protection.

Rope guards are fitted to the bearing strut barrels and protect the bearings from external damage while ensuring good hydrodynamic performance over the bearing assemblies.

These are manufactured from Orkot Grade 321 material for orders received from BMT Defence Services .The rudder and stabiliser bearings made of an Orkot TXMM material and are seawater lubricated.
The rudder units can operate totally dry under emergency conditions and the stabiliser bearings were specified following successful long-term operation on other Royal Navy capital ships.
