Delba Electrical - First to Be Approved as SKF Certified Rewinder

SKF, with a century of experience and global leader in bearing technology and rotating equipment solutions, introduces a new world-wide certification programme, the SKF Certified Rewinder Programme, to the South African market and Delba Electrical was the first officially audited and approved company to receive the SKF Certified Rewinder Certificate on 15th December 2006.

The objective of the SKF Certified Rewinder Programme is to improve motor repair effectiveness, resulting in enhanced motor reliability and improved mean time between failure (MTBF).

End users benefit through improved productivity and lower total cost of ownership. This is achieved by setting stringent repair standards for the bearing related components of the motor repair and by providing on-going training.

Delba Electrical, based in Springs, with over 40 years experience in the electric motor industry, immediately recognised the advantages of the Rewinder programme as a way to build on the company’s four-decade relationship with SKF South Africa. The programme will enable Delba Electrical to gain further access to the full array of SKF support resources, to distinguish themselves from their competition and to project a strong positive image to the industry.

During the hand-over ceremony, Delba Executive Director, Armando Balocco, as well as SKF General Manager, Gavin Garland, both said that it is only fitting for Delba Electrical, with their longstanding working relationship with SKF South Africa, to be appointed as the first SKF Certified Rewinder.

“Delba Electrical has an enviable reputation for high quality products, one of the reasons why we have always chosen SKF as our preferred brand”, says Balocco. “We receive excellent service from SKF’s long-time Authorised Distributor - Bearing Services Springs, and we are proud to be linked to the SKF organisation”.

Garland praises Delba Electrical’s leadership in technology as well as the company’s commitment and investment to improve its products and services by recognising the need to develop employees’ skills and potential through continuous training programmes. As part of the SKF certification, 46 Delba Electrical technicians were trained, tested and certified in electric motor failure analysis, bearing installation, lubrication systems and condition monitoring technologies. The knowledge acquired will also be extended in order to benefit customers through Delba Electrical’s Field Services Division.

The certification focuses on the four key factors that influence bearing life: Product quality, environment, installation and maintenance. Furthermore, it means that the workshop, tools, procedures and equipment used by Delba Electrical, have been found to meet or exceed SKF’s exacting quality standards.

The SKF Certified Rewinder Programme was introduced to the global market for a number of reasons: The high rating placed on motor reliability incident reports, customers requesting quality assured maintenance and the problem of early failure of serviced motors. Since bearing failure is recognised as the primary mechanical symptom of motor failure, reliability heavily depends on bearing type, installation, lubrication, handling, storage and maintenance.

The programme requirements for Certified Rewinders include continuous training on best-in-class-practices, quality audits, technical standards and re-certification every two years in the use of SKF bearings. In turn, SKF will assist Certified Rewinders with technical and field support, unique promotion and marketing activities, as well as training and development to maintain and increase the Rewinders’ competence levels. The programme also allows Certified Rewinders to offer high quality electric motor service, reduced service variability, as well as consistent motor service specifications and standards, thereby minimising unplanned downtime and maximising mean time between failures and ultimately in reducing the customer’s total cost of ownership.
