According to the latest statistics compiled by the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), exports of Taiwan-made machine tools rose 8.8% year-on-year to US$1.626 billion in the first seven months of 2006. Meanwhile, Taiwan imported machine tools at a value of US$1.05 billion, up 8.9% compared to last year.
The largest importer (in value) of Taiwanese machine tools is Mainland China and Hong Kong, followed by the US and Turkey. The top 15 importing countries accounted for 85% of the total exports from Taiwan.
On the import side, Taiwan purchased machine tools mostly from Japan, the US, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, and China and Hong Kong.
