Load-bearing Constructions: Adhesives For Metal Connections(Pic)

For years adhesives have proven to be efficient for many applications with metal. Reaction adhesives like epoxy resin adhesives achieve strengths comparable to welding and offer a tension-equalizing behavior at the same time. E.g. epoxy resins of German DELO Industrial Adhesives have been used in wind power plant constructions for over 10 years in order to bond rotor blades of 27 m into steel flanges.



Mainly modern surface coatings have depicted the challenge for long-term stable connections: galvanizing and chromating. Housings are protected against aggressive surrounding conditions and rare earth magnets are protected against corrosion by being chromated. Welding is no longer taken into consideration in such cases.

Extensive tests by DELO show that 1- and 2-part epoxies achieve very good strengths and resistances on these surfaces. Especially 1-part, heat-curing DELO-MONOPOX 1196 has proven to be efficient for galvanized and chromated surfaces. It shows a very good strength after storage at 85 °C/85 % r. h. for 500 h.

The use of 2-part products is an alternative for small, frequently changing series, or if temperature-sensitive components like plastic are placed on the metal. Cold curing DELO-DUOPOX AD895 achieves high-strength and resistant connections, as well.
