SKF has developed a new roller unit in a lightweight design, suitable for a wide range of applications and uses such as belt tensioning, cam or support roller in a wide range of industries, e.g. in packaging and textile machinery or printing machines.
The ready-to-mount-roller is dimensionally stable, friction-optimized, wear-resistant and maintenance-free. The low mass moment of inertia minimizes slip and losses. The steel jacket ensures high wear resistance and good heat removal. The roller outside diameter is designed to be spherical for better belt guidance. The integral axle enables the roller to be attached (screwed) directly to any machine. The attaching axle is supported by precise SKF Explorer deep-groove ball bearings, which ensure a low vibration level even at high speeds. If desired, the roller unit can be fitted with speed sensors.
The unit has a special sandwich construction that consists of a stainless steel sheet jacket and a plastic insert. The manufacturing method, combining the two materials into a compact unit, was developed by SKF and is patent protected.
