Modern machine elements such as high performance linear guidance systems require very little maintenance thanks to targeted lubricant supply and effective seals. Under certain conditions, complete freedom from maintenance can even be achieved.
In order to achieve this, the Linear Technology Division of INA-Schaeffler KG, the globally acknowledged and market-leading specialist for linear guidance systems, has developed its existing accessories and newly developed subassemblies into a "modular concept KIT" that can be used to equip, for example, ball monorail guidance systems KUVE.. to fulfil the requirements of the individual application. The focus here is on the individual nature of the application, since the decisive factor as always is the particular area in which linear guidance systems are used. On the subject of lubrication, the KUVE system can in conjunction with long term lubrication units (LZV) and thanks to the integral lubricant reservoirs to achieve "maintenance-free" systems depending on the application conditions.
So far, so good. While lubrication is thus well provided for, however, linear guidance systems are subjected to a large number of requirements as a result of the area of application and ambient conditions that can only be met by means of a highly developed sealing system. With the unique sealing system in the "modular concept KIT" for ball monorail guidance systems KUVE.., INA offers both the designer and the user a standard that provides the option of a well-matched and economical solution based on compatible elements.
The design and modification of linear guidance systems KUVE.. with the KIT can be carried out on the basis of various criteria, such as the level of contamination:
·slight contamination
e.g. coarse (large) swarf
·moderate contamination
e.g. swarf of different sizes or the influence of cooling lubricant
severe contamination
e.g. swarf of different sizes, incl. very small swarf from HSC machining, aggressive dust or exposure to cooling lubricant.
In accordance with the stated levels of contamination, the sealing concept in the integrated KIT system of accessories provides various end wipers and sealing strips as well as lubrication kits for protection against contamination.
Meeting individual requirements
The higher the requirements, the more components of the KIT system are used: sheet steel wipers, single lip end wipers, sealing strips, long term lubrication units, double lip end wipers, seals made from different materials, for example for use in aggressive cooling lubricants. Furthermore, these can be combined according to requirements. Extreme requirements of this type are commonplace in metalworking and in plastics processing. Long term tests and practical trials show that upgrading of linear guidance systems using long term lubrication units and sealing modules from the INA modular concept KIT gives a significantly longer operating life than linear guidance systems from competitors that only offer conventional wipers and leave the issues of lubrication and system sealing to the user.
