New bearing wear system for Wärtsilä Sulzer engine

AMOT has announced a contract with Willenius Wilhelmsen to supply a retro-fit XTS-W bearing condition monitoring system, via their Swedish channel partner, Mech-Sure of Gothenburg. The system will be fitted to a Wärtsilä Sulzer RTA68 engine with a 13500KW output, on the Isolde vessel, a 5300 capacity car carrier. Installation will be carried out by Ciserv of Gothenburg, a Wärtsilä company.

AMOT's innovative XTS-W bearing wear conditioning system, provides the earliest warning of bearing wear and monitors condition over extended periods.

This system actually detects wear of main, crank-pin and crosshead bearings on large diesel marine engines before steel-on-steel contact and costly consequential damage. Traditional temperature instrumentation or oil mist detection systems cannot detect such wear in advance of failure.

The AMOT XTS-W system uses a totally new concept based on sensing linear bearing wear. It is the most cost-effective solution to provide operators the maximum information regarding bearing condition and allow time for controlled engine shut-down and planned maintenance.
