Recovery rescue workers from the collapse of an underground room in a huge US-owned gold and copper mine in Indonesia four bodies, the confirmed death toll to 21, mine officials said on Tuesday. 7 people were buried under the rubble.
Indonesia Freeport mine iron cap underground training facility collapsed last week, when 38 workers safety training. 10 injured miners were rescued.
The company said in a statement, recovery efforts continue around the clock.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he had ordered two cabinet ministers to investigate the accident in person by the company, but their access is denied because the rescue work is still in progress.
Grasberg copper mine, Phoenix, Arizona, Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., has been suspended mining operations since the accident, to pay tribute to the victims, and to concentrate on recovery efforts. The company said that the accident is expected to have no significant effect on its business.
"I will continue to order ministers and other relevant officials in-depth discussion and investigation to find out what has to be done to ensure future security, Yudhoyono said:" presided over the meeting to discuss the accident. "We will evaluate all mining companies in the country, not only free port."
Richard Ackerson (Richard Adkerson), president and CEO of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., arrived at the scene on Saturday and visited the injured workers and the families of those still buried.
"Through this event, I am deeply saddened and disturbed," said Adkerson, added: "around the world to connect the whole family in Freeport Freeport Indonesia lost brother's grief."
The Grasberg copper is one of the world's largest copper and gold producers.
More than 20,000 workers employed in the mine, has repeatedly been arson attacks, roadside bombs and blocked the target to begin production in the 1970s. It is located in the remote mountainous areas rich in natural resources but poor in Papua Province, which is a decades-long low-level separatist insurgency.
