Iran envoy to Cyprus recalled after extradition to U.S.

Iran has recalled its Ambassador to Cyprus, after consultation, the Iranian state has recently extradited from the island to the United States on suspicion of violation of the UN arms embargo, the Cypriot Foreign Minister said on Thursday.
"Only today ... I received word from Nicosia, Iran has decided to recall its ambassador for consultations. Why try to buy, in violation of the arms embargo against Iran, Iranian citizens have been arrested." Ioannis Kasoulides in a meeting that was held in Washington.
Iranian diplomatic source was ordered to be extradited to the United States by the court "exhausted all available domestic remedies" about two weeks ago in Cyprus in Nicosia.
The source added that the nature of the offense is alleged to belong to the sanctions regime in Iran supplies purchase and delivery, but will not go into any more detail.
The Kasoulides, the audience at the Brookings Institution talk, later told Reuters that Iran had tried to Nicosia to exert political pressure in order to avoid extradition. "In Cyprus principle, we follow the judgment of the Court."
Cyprus, perched on the edge of the volatile Middle East, saw the worst peacetime disaster two years ago when the goods confiscated Iranian weapons destined for Syria explosion destroyed its largest power station.
