Florida members of Congress on Thursday approved a bill that would eliminate permanent alimony and financial support limit on the amount the former spouse receives based on the length of the marriage.
Has been approved measures to clear the Florida House of Representatives 85-31, by the State Senate Republican Governor Rick Scott did not say whether he will sign it.
Florida is one of several states alimony law is being challenged. Last year, Massachusetts cancel the permanent spousal support, and similar legislation has been introduced in Connecticut, Oregon and New Jersey.
Alimony, can make a big difference in the United States, some states have set clear guidelines. Others, like Florida, allow the judge to determine the amount.
The bill's supporters believe that life-long financial commitment to their former husband or wife spousal support laws in some states before the force.
Opponents say, alimony judgment should be granted on a case-by-case basis, specific payment guidelines.
Half of marriages of the bill would set the length of time to pay alimony, although the court in some cases could exceed the limit.
Measures seeking spousal support, the need to prove it, in addition to 20 years or more of marriage, when alimony will be considered justified.
"This involves a fair system for everyone, said:" Who introduced the bill State Senator Kelly Stargel.
"It's just a fair framework, so consistency in the process, so it will not be your lawyer or the luck of the draw, you will get what kind of judgment on the basis of quality," she said. "
The guidelines in addition to paying the bill payer short-term marriage, 25% and 38% of the interim trade unions for the upper limit of 25% of the total revenue of the long-term marriage alimony.
