Space play an increasing role in the security dialogue between the United States and China, although there is no formal dialogue has started to focus on space security, a senior U.S. State Department official said Thursday.
"In the past year or so, the space has been included in an incremental way, we hope to continue these discussions on space security, space and defense policy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Frank Rose, told Reuters reporters in space delivered a speech in Colorado Adams meeting of Prince industry.
Ross said the United States still worried about China's development of anti-satellite capability in a dissolution of the satellite in orbit missile shot in 2007, created a lot of space debris.
"The United States will continue to focus on the development of China's anti-satellite program, but we also want to allow them to participate and talk about it," Ross said. "This is in no one's interest, long-lived debris in outer space."
Washington remain vigilant in space activities after intelligence reports, last year raised concerns about China's growing ability to disrupt America's most sensitive military and intelligence satellites.
Sources familiar with the report, which contains reliable information on China's capabilities could undermine U.S. satellites in high orbit, the satellite, missile or ground-based interference technology. The lower rail has been carried out repeatedly ASAT test.
Ross said, the test debris created in January 2007 has been close to the Chinese satellite in orbit hundreds of times in the past six years, prompting the U.S. government warning of potential collisions in Beijing.
"We all have a space environment to maintain the long-term interests of the long-term sustainability," he said.
The United States have a formal security dialogue with Russia and other countries of the space, and eventually want to establish a similar regular exchange with China, "Ross said.
"Longer-term, which is also the United States want to do ... but we have not yet," Ross said, although he said that China seems to be more willing participation.
In his speech, Ross said negotiations with China on a bilateral basis and in multilateral fora such as the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful taking place.
He said that even during the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union space issues to maintain open channels of communication. "This is an important dialogue to prevent miscalculation and misunderstanding."
Some U.S. military officials stressed the need to strengthen surveillance satellites and other space objects in this week's meeting organized by the Space Foundation.
They cited the dangers posed by the increase of enemy debris and possible hostile behavior.
