Sacramento, calif. (ap) - cigarette sales decline, in the past ten years of significantly higher smokeless tobacco products sales in California, the use of high school students, especially from state public health officials worry, according to a status report.
Public health report released on Thursday said, smokeless tobacco products cost amount in 10 years almost doubled, from $2001 in 77 million to $211 million in 2011.
The report said, in the high school students, smokeless tobacco use increased from 3.9% in 2004, 3.1% of the students in 2010.
Chewing tobacco and snuff is still a major selling in the state of smokeless tobacco products, but the new product and so on small, soluble packet is called snuff popularization, the promotion and the increase of usability. Even smaller and more cautious soluble products, such as sphere and belt is increasingly popular in other countries may soon arrived in California.
Colleen Stevens said, the public health ministry tobacco control planning department director, new products can be ignored, even use in the classroom, because they like to eat mint, belt.
"These products are really flying under the radar," Stevens told the Los Angeles times.
Stevens said the new smokeless tobacco product research less than chewing tobacco and cigarette, and have their own marketing and advertising fewer restrictions.
