Storm Sandy: NY transport disruption to continue

Commuters in the New York area have been warned that transport disruption caused by storm Sandy will continue when they head back to work on Monday.

State Governor Andrew Cuomo said that work was continuing on restoring the city's transport services.

New York's political leaders have also warned that tens of thousands of people displaced by Sandy could soon need housing as cold weather closes in.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg put the figure at 30,000-40,000 people.

NJ Transit, New Jersey's public transport body, warned that it was "still several weeks away from full service restoration" and that it would be running emergency bus services as of Monday morning to help people get back to their jobs in New York.
