According to Vietnam News Agency reported on May 24, Vietnam's Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing is far behind other countries in the region. 10 years ago, the Vietnamese Government has approved the implementation of the "machinery and equipment development for 2020 to 2010 Strategy, but now they can only non-critical equipment and spare parts production for the electricity, cement, chemicals, shipbuilding and automotive industries . Currently, machinery and equipment manufacturing industry can only meet 20 percent of the more domestic demand, 80 percent of the machinery and equipment still rely on imports, lost to foreign rivals in many key projects bid. The next 10 years, Vietnam has planned to build nearly 100 thermal power plants, this is a good opportunity to speed up the development of its machinery and equipment manufacturing.
