European statistics office said in July the unemployment rate in the 17 countries using the euro has remained stable at 12.1%, a record high - even if the total number of unemployed decreased 15,000.
Eurostat said Friday the number of unemployed in the euro area fell to 19.23 million, which since April 2011 marked the second consecutive year, and add to the recent indications that the euro zone economy will continue to grow.
It said the unemployment rate in the EU 28 countries was steady at 11%, the number of unemployed fell 33,000 to 7.42 million.
Eurozone debt crisis from 2011 to the end of economic contraction in the first quarter, prompting many countries to implement tough austerity policies to suppress economic growth and confidence.
