U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee through several steps to improve military sexual assault Wednesday in a rare public debate on the annual defense policy bill sued, but it killed a controversial proposal Pentagon leaders of the opposition.

Texas Republican Ted Cruz and New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen supports Gillibrand's proposal.
Army debate on the issue of sexual assault following an annual Pentagon study unwelcome sexual contact, from groping rape, in 2012 an increase of 37%, with an estimated 26,000 cases from 19,000 the previous year. It also follows a series of high-profile cases of sexual assault.
