A 6.6 earthquake struck Indonesia's Sumatra Island west coast (Wednesday), seismologists said, sent frightened residents to flee their homes and buildings.
Approximately 7:30 (0030 GMT) 300 kilometers (186 miles), the capital of cotton Lanxi Nan earthquake struck the North Sumatra Province, a depth of 45 km, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
No direct damage or casualties were reported, but on the Xi Molu residents to turn off the west coast of Sumatra island about 150 kilometers (93 miles) island, said the violent shaking of the ground for about one minute.
"The home of people out of the panic we felt a strong shock for about a minute, but so far no obvious signs of damage," said Abdul Karim, a 44-year-old civil servant, in the the Sinabang capital Xi Molu the island.
Indonesia's meteorological agency did not issue a tsunami warning, and confirmed, so far, there is no casualties or damage to property report.
Australian Bureau of Meteorology said the Indonesian earthquake caused no tsunami threat to Australia.
