Brussels (AP) - The European Union's executive body, the Commission, open into investigating whether Microsoft has been maintained to the antitrust commitments it made ??in 2009, warned that the penalties for non-compliance may be a "serious".
EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia told reporters Tuesday that there are indications that the company behind the Windows operating system, Microsoft has been unable to provide customers with a screen, they can choose a different Internet browser just outside of Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Almunia said that the selection screen, Microsoft has promised in the 2009 antitrust case is not yet available since February 2011 - the launch of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - which means that 280,000 customers may not see it.
Almunia said that Microsoft does not appear to be called into question the facts. He also said that this will be the first time such a legally binding agreement has not been complied with.
"Needless to say, we have taken to comply with our decision very great importance," he said. "If it is confirmed infringement will be sanctions."
